Post Office Eagles

Historic Eagles in Cleveland

I have done several posts (March 2018 and September 2018) on the two eagles that once sat in front of the old Chamber of Commerce Building downtown. They have found their new home outside Post Office Plaza and they look fantastic!

First these are not live eagles, they are two 5,000 pound pink granite statues. The old Chamber of Commerce building was on Public Square, where Key Tower stands today. They first appeared in 1898 but were removed in 1955 when the Chamber building was demolished.

They lived for many years on a farm in Geauga county but in 2018 they went up for sale and eventually were purchased by the K&D group to be placed outside of the Old Post Office Building (behind Terminal Tower) on W. 3rd St. I stopped by the other day to check them out and they are doing fine!

If you want to learn more about the statues, check out the article Laura DeMarco wrote in Plain Dealer back in March 2018.
