Maya Lin in Cleveland

Cleveland Public Library Maya Lin Art

Maya Lin is probably most well know for her work in Washington, DC, the Vietnam War Memorial. She was just 21 when her design was chosen for the Vietnam War Memorial through a contest. Maya Lin was born in Athens, Ohio after her family emigrated from China. Her work can be seen all over the country including the campus of Ohio State and right here in Cleveland!

If you have ever been downtown to the Cleveland Public Library and ventured into the Linda Eastman Reading Garden you may have noticed Maya’s fountain. It is a gentle flowing fountain made up of granite paving blocks with a poem inscribed on it. The reading garden was redesigned and dedicated in 1998, after the Louis Stokes wing of the library was added.

The reading garden is a peaceful place right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown Cleveland. Totally worth a stop or a sit!
