As we start our series on some of the free museums here in Cleveland, we begin with the Cleveland Museum of Art. The Cleveland Museum of Art is currently hosting the Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors exhibit through September 30. This is exhibit requires tickets but the rest of the museum does not; the rest is free! The Cleveland Museum of Art has been free since it opened on June 6, 1916 and will always remain that way. When Jeptha Wade (one of the founders of Western Union & Cleveland native) donated the land to the museum he had it written in the grant that the museum would be “for the benefit of all the people forever”.
The Cleveland Art Museum has collections from around the world including, India, China, America, Britain, Korea, France, Spain and Germany. It has pieces from artists such as Warhol, Picasso, Degas, Monet and Dali to name just a few. The collection is truly amazing! Below is a small sample of some of the art work.
