Cleveland has long, rich food history. Today we look back at Cleveland resident Hector Boiardi. After moving from New York in 1917, Hector worked at the Hotel Winton and went on to operate several restaurants in downtown Cleveland. Hector was an Italian immigrant who launched a “to go” business for food in the 1930’s. At first he packaged his homemade pasta sauces in re-used milk bottles. His to go business went on to become a huge success and still survives today as part of ConAgra foods.
You know him as Chef Boy-ar-dee.
