Third in our Public Square series – Terminal Tower, Cleveland’s most iconic building! The original plan for the building called for it to be 19 stories but M.J. and O.P. Van Sweringen, the Cleveland brothers who built the complex, decided on the 52 story version we see today instead. The building opened to tenants in 1928 but wasn’t officially dedicated until 1930. Today Terminal Tower is the second tallest building in Cleveland and Ohio.
The tower is lite at night by 508 LED lights that change color based on the time of the year or happenings around town. Typically you will see flags flying atop the building. An average flag lasts about 10 days before it is shredded by the wind and needs to be replaced.
The observation deck is on the 42nd floor and is open just at certain times of the year. The views are amazing! Check out our blog post on the Observation Deck discussing our visit there.
Our walking tours start in Public Square, which has great views of Terminal Tower. Book your tour today.
