Four years ago this week on May 2, 2014, the Playhouse Square chandelier lighting took place. It was a magnificent event. Euclid Ave. was shut down and a was stage erected. The area was packed with people. There was live entertainment including a marching band and lot’s of musical performances.
The grand finale started with a performance from Wicked – Defying Gravity. As the song progressed, one by one each of the theater marquees were lite. Finally the chandelier was lite and the firework show began with small fireworks above the chandelier and then a huge display all over Public Square.
The chandelier is the largest outdoor chandelier in the world. It is made up of 4,200 crystals.
