The third and final in this week’s “Father’s of Cleveland” is actually not from Cleveland but is very well know here, actor Darren McGavin, who played Ralphie’s dad in A Christmas Story. The movie A Christmas Story was filmed in part in Cleveland. Today you can visit the Christmas Story House in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland. The exterior shots were filmed on location there. You can tour the interior of the house, which has been made to look like the movie, see props from the movie and visit their incredible gift shop.
The movie would not be the classic it is today without Darren McGavin. Darren played in countless movies and TV shows, including Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Gunsmoke, Mission Impossible, The Love Boat, Magnum P.I., Murphy Brown, Touched by An Angel and The X-Files.
In A Christmas Story, we remember the “old man” played by Darren for his “major award” (the infamous leg lamp) and great lines like “Fragile, it must be Italian” and “You used up all the glue on purpose!”
On our walking tours, we look at the where the scenes in Public Square where filmed. Book your tour today!
