Tom Hanks, Halle Berry or Drew Carey
The answer is all three!
- Tom Hanks got his big break performing at the Great Lakes Theater Festival in Playhouse Square. He made his professional debut as “Grumio” in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. He also stared in Two Gentleman of Verona for which he won a Cleveland Critics Award for Best Actor.
- Halle Berry was born in Cleveland and went to Bedford High School in Cuyahoga County. She graduated in 1984. Halle won an Emmy, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award (to name a few) for her role as Dorothy Dandridge in Introducing Dorothy Dandridge. Dorothy Dandridge is ironically also from Cleveland.
- Drew Carey grew up in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood of Cleveland. On the Drew Carey Show, the exterior shots of the department store where Drew worked has the old Halle’s department store on Euclid Ave. in downtown Cleveland. Cleveland Rocks! Ohio!
