Cleveland has many sister city’s around the world, 22 to be exact and Ljubljana, Slovenia is one. Ljubljana is the capital and largest city of Slovenia as well as Slovenia’s scientific, cultural, and economic center. Cleveland is home to around 80,000 people of Slovenian descent; the largest group outside Slovenia.
Inside Cleveland’s City Hall, sits a sculpture, called A Greeting to America, by Slovenian sculptor and painter, Tone Kralj (1900 – 1975). The sculpture was first given in 1938 from the mayor and people of Ljubljana to the mayor and people of Cleveland. It continues to represent the sister city bond between our two cities.
