The FRONT art exhibit has artwork displayed all across Cleveland, Oberlin and Akron in all kinds of spaces, including the Cleveland Public Library downtown. The American Library by British artist, Yinka Shonibare displays over 6,000 books with the names of first and second generation immigrants to America who have contributed to the arts, sciences, culture as well as names of those who opposed this. These are people from our history as well as today, national and local.
The piece is amazing. I only had a little time to take it in and need to go back. It is a piece that you can see something different every time you look at it. Who can you find? The books on the self are not in alphabetically order but their are kiosks where you can research the names of those is represented in the piece. The display is on the first floor of the main building.
The FRONT art exhibit is on display now through September 30, 2018. Periodically, throughout the rest of the summer we will take a look at various pieces.
