Huntington Building Sold

Huntington Building

A deal to sell the near vacant Huntington Building at the corner of Euclid Ave and E. 9th St was announced earlier this week. This is exciting news for the city! Here are some interesting facts about the building:

  • It opened in 1924 and was the largest bank building in the city and second largest in the country at the time.
  • It has the largest bank lobby in the world!
  • It was originally the Union Trust Building and 6,000 employees worked there.
  • The roof was originally designed to be a landing pad for zeppelin service for a route connecting Chicago, Cleveland and New York City. It never happened because the winds off Lake Erie were too much.

Check out this video to catch a rare glimpse into the lobby and even the vaults (about 3 1/2 minutes into the video).
